Twisted

Tortured garlands of black paper are tensely shackled to walls and hung from ceilings like dark chandeliers. These ungainly spirals seem under tension and ready to escape their tethers.

These are tightly coiled, corkscrew twists, over-worked and wound into themselves. They are brittle and friable, knotted and tangled – somehow alive but captured frozen mid-squirm. The blackness seems threatening, and there’s an unease built into the structure of the piece.

Born out of hours of labour twisting rolls of paper, this work is anxious and uncomfortable. It embodies a feeling of restlessness and unease.
